Air Buns
Ingredients
- 12 c warm water
- 1 tsp sugar
- 2 Tbsp or 2 pkg dry yeast
- 3 12 c warm water
- 12 c sugar
- 12 c shortening
- 1 Tbsp vinegar
- 1 tsp salt
- 8 to 10 c flour
Directions
- Mix 12 cup warm water and 1 teaspoon sugar in a small bowl Add dry yeast and let stand 15 minutes
- In a large bowl mix 3 12 cups warm water 12 cup sugar shortening vinegar and salt
- Mix well and let cool to lukewarm
- Add flour
- Knead until smooth and elastic
- Let rise then punch down and form into rolls
- Bake at 375 for 30 minutes or until done
- This is a large recipe and can be cut in half
- A full recipe will make 5 to 6 dozen rolls
- I usually make a large pan of rolls plus a pan of cinnamon rolls and some hamburger buns
- It is also a good recipe for hamburger buns for family gatherings
- The extra rolls freeze well
