Angel Biscuits

Ingredients

  • 1 pkg dry yeast
  • 2 Tbsp warm water 105 to 115
  • 1 c shortening
  • 5 c all-purpose flour
  • 12 c sugar
  • 3 tsp baking powder
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 2 c buttermilk

Directions

  1. Dissolve yeast in warm water
  2. Cut shortening into flour sugar baking powder salt and soda with pastry blender
  3. Stir in buttermilk and yeast mixture until dough leaves sides of bowl Dough will be soft and sticky
  4. Pour dough onto floured surface roll into ball
  5. Knead lightly 25 to 30 times
  6. Sprinkle with flour if dough is too sticky
  7. Roll it 12-inch thick
  8. Cut with round cutter
  9. Bake at 400 on a greased cookie sheet for about 14 minutes
  10. Makes about 2 12 dozen biscuits
