Basic Yeast Rolls

Ingredients

  • 1 pkg dry yeast
  • 14 c lukewarm water
  • 12 c scalded milk
  • 2 Tbsp sugar
  • 34 tsp salt
  • 2 Tbsp melted butter or margarine
  • 1 egg
  • 2 12 c all-purpose flour

Directions

  1. Dissolve dry yeast in lukewarm water according to directions on package
  2. Add milk which has been cooled to lukewarm sugar and salt
  3. Allow to stand 5 minutes
  4. Add butter or margarine and egg mix well
  5. Stir in flour and beat with spoon until dough forms a ball and follows spoon around the bowl
  6. Brush top of dough with melted butter
  7. Cover with wax paper or towel
  8. Let rise to double in bulk
  9. Turn out on floured board and knead
  10. Shape or cut let rise in biscuit pan
  11. Bake at 400 for 10 to 12 minutes or until brown
