Beef Stew 57

Ingredients

  • 1 12 lb cubed boneless beef for stew
  • 1 tsp salt
  • dash of pepper
  • 12 tsp sugar
  • 2 Tbsp shortening
  • 2 c water
  • 2 beef bouillon cubes
  • 3 Tbsp Heinz 57 sauce
  • 12 c thinly sliced celery
  • 2 medium potatoes quartered
  • 2 medium onions quartered
  • 3 large carrots cut into 1-inch slices

Directions

  1. Sprinkle meat with salt pepper and sugar
  2. Brown well in shortening
  3. Add water and bouillon cubes
  4. Cover simmer 1 hour or until meat is almost tender
  5. Add 57 sauce and remaining ingredients
  6. Cover simmer 1 hour or until vegetables are tender Stew may be thickened with flour-water mixture if desired Makes 6 servings about 6 cups
