Braised Red Cabbage

Braised Red Cabbage

Ingredients

  • 1 red cabbage about 1 lb
  • 2 Tbsp vegetable oil
  • 12 c coarsely chopped onion
  • 1 apple peeled cored and cut in thin slices
  • 12 c fresh or canned chicken broth
  • 1 Tbsp red wine vinegar
  • 2 Tbsp honey or brown sugar
  • 2 Tbsp butter
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 12 tsp cloves or to taste

Directions

  1. Discard any tough or wilted leaves from the cabbage and core Julienne the cabbage
  2. Heat oil in a heavy frypan
  3. Add the onion and cabbage and cook until wilted
  4. Add the apple broth vinegar honey or sugar cloves salt and pepper
  5. Blend well
  6. Cover and cook for 15 minutes stirring often
  7. Add the butter
  8. Stir and blend well
  9. Serves 4
