Brown Bread
Ingredients
- 6 oz flour
- 18 oz whole wheat flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 Tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 2 Tbsp bran
- 10 oz buttermilk approximately
- 1 egg
Directions
- In a large bowl sift together dry ingredients
- Add beaten egg and buttermilk and stir into a soft dough
- With floured hands knead dough lightly and quickly into a ball
- Shape dough into approximately a 7-inch round and place in a 9-inch pie plate Cut a deep cross into the dough
- Bake in a preheated oven at 400 for 25 minutes and then lower the oven temperature to 350 for an additional 25 minutes
- Test for doneness as above
- Let bread sit for one hour before serving
