Brown Lentil Soup

Ingredients
- 1 lb lentils
- 1 lb salt pork or smoked ham
- 1 small onion diced
- 1 carrot diced
- 1 bay leaf
- salt and pepper
- crushed garlic cloves to taste
- water
- 4 cubes beef bouillon
Directions
- Soak lentils overnight
- Drain
- Place lentils in a deep pot Add salt pork onion carrot bay leaf salt and pepper
- Add enough water to cover
- Add bouillon cubes
- Bring to a boil Reduce heat and simmer 1 hour
