Butterhorns

Ingredients

  • 1 pkg dry yeast
  • 1 Tbsp sugar
  • 14 c lukewarm water
  • 2 c flour sifted
  • 12 tsp salt
  • 12 c butter
  • 14 c shortening
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 2 egg whites
  • 12 c sugar

Directions

  1. Blend the yeast 1 tablespoon sugar and lukewarm water together in a small bowl set aside
  2. Combine the sifted flour salt butter and shortening in a large mixing bowl
  3. Cut butter and shortening into the flour and salt mixture with a pastry blender
  4. Beat the egg yolks slightly with a fork add to flour mixture along with yeast mixture
  5. Mix well
  6. Beat the egg whites until foamy
  7. Begin adding 12 cup sugar very gradually beat until mixture holds a stiff peak
