Candy Cane Cookies
Ingredients
- 12 c butter or margarine softened
- 12 c shortening
- 1 c confectioners sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 12 tsp almond extract
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 2 12 c flour
- 12 tsp salt
- 12 tsp red food coloring
Directions
- Heat oven to 375
- Mix thoroughly the first 6 ingredients Blend in flour and salt
- Divide dough in half blend food coloring into 12
- Shape 1 teaspoon dough from each 12 into 4-inch rope Roll back and forth on lightly floured board
- Place ropes side by side
- Press together lightly and twist
- Place on ungreased baking sheet curve top of cookie to form a cane
- Bake about 9 minutes until set and very light brown
- Makes about 2 to 4 dozen cookies depending on size of canes
