Candy Cane Cookies

Ingredients

  • 12 c butter or margarine softened
  • 12 c shortening
  • 1 c confectioners sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 12 tsp almond extract
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2 12 c flour
  • 12 tsp salt
  • 12 tsp red food coloring

Directions

  1. Heat oven to 375
  2. Mix thoroughly the first 6 ingredients Blend in flour and salt
  3. Divide dough in half blend food coloring into 12
  4. Shape 1 teaspoon dough from each 12 into 4-inch rope Roll back and forth on lightly floured board
  5. Place ropes side by side
  6. Press together lightly and twist
  7. Place on ungreased baking sheet curve top of cookie to form a cane
  8. Bake about 9 minutes until set and very light brown
  9. Makes about 2 to 4 dozen cookies depending on size of canes
