Chocolate Chip Date Cake

Ingredients

• 1 c chopped dates
• 1 12 c boiling water
• 1 tsp baking soda
• 12 c shortening
• 1 c sugar
• 2 eggs
• 1 14 c flour
• 14 tsp soda baking
• 1 pkg chocolate chips
• 12 c nut meats
• 12 c sugar

Directions

1. Pour boiling water over dates and 1 teaspoon baking soda let cool
2. Cream shortening and sugar
3. Add beaten eggs then add cooled mixture
4. Sift together the flour and 14 teaspoon soda add to creamed mixture
5. Mix well
6. Pour into a 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan that has been greased and floured
7. Mix the last 3 ingredients spread on top of cake
8. Bake at 350 for 30 to 35 minutes
