Chocolate Chip Meringue Bars
Ingredients
- 1 c margarine
- 12 c white sugar
- 12 c brown sugar
- 2 eggs separated
- 1 Tbsp water
- 2 c sifted flour
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 14 tsp salt
- 14 tsp baking soda
- 1 large pkg mini chocolate morsels
- 1 c brown sugar
Directions
- Cream margarine and sugars together
- Add egg yolks water and vanilla
- Sift dry ingredients together and add to creamed mixture Pat dough into an ungreased 9 x 13-inch pan
- Sprinkle chocolate morsels over top of dough and gently press into dough
- Bake for 10 minutes while making meringue
- Beat egg whites until stiff
- Add 1 cup brown sugar and beat well
- Remove dough from oven and spread meringue across top making sure to seal edges
- Bake at 325 glass pan or 350 metal pan for 25 minutes
- Cool before cutting
- Cut carefully to avoid crumbling the meringue
