Chocolate Chip Meringue Bars

Ingredients

  • 1 c margarine
  • 12 c white sugar
  • 12 c brown sugar
  • 2 eggs separated
  • 1 Tbsp water
  • 2 c sifted flour
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 14 tsp salt
  • 14 tsp baking soda
  • 1 large pkg mini chocolate morsels
  • 1 c brown sugar

Directions

  1. Cream margarine and sugars together
  2. Add egg yolks water and vanilla
  3. Sift dry ingredients together and add to creamed mixture Pat dough into an ungreased 9 x 13-inch pan
  4. Sprinkle chocolate morsels over top of dough and gently press into dough
  5. Bake for 10 minutes while making meringue
  6. Beat egg whites until stiff
  7. Add 1 cup brown sugar and beat well
  8. Remove dough from oven and spread meringue across top making sure to seal edges
  9. Bake at 325 glass pan or 350 metal pan for 25 minutes
  10. Cool before cutting
  11. Cut carefully to avoid crumbling the meringue
