Christmas Candy Canes

Ingredients

  • 3 c sugar
  • 12 c water
  • 34 c light corn syrup
  • 14 tsp cream of tartar
  • 1 tsp peppermint flavoring
  • 34 tsp red vegetable coloring

Directions

  1. In saucepan combine sugar water syrup and cream of tartar until the sugar is dissolved
  2. Put 12 of this syrup into another saucepan
  3. Boil both saucepans until syrup reaches 260 on your candy thermometer
  4. Do not stir
  5. Add 12 teaspoon peppermint to each saucepan
  6. Add food coloring to one pan only
  7. Oil enamel or marble table and pour syrup on it to cool
  8. Like taffy you stretch and pull and form each color into ropes of red and white
  9. Then twist them around again and again
  10. Form into candy canes
  11. Let them harden on an oiled surface
  12. Then hang them in the Christmas tree
