Cowboy Soup

Ingredients
- 2 Tbsp shortening
- 1 lb lean ground beef
- 1 c onion chopped
- 1 c potatoes diced
- 1 c cabbage shredded
- 1 c carrots sliced
- 12 c rice
- 1 c celery sliced
- 2 1 lb each cans tomatoes
- 4 c water
- 12 tsp basil
- 14 tsp thyme
- 1 bay leaf
- salt to taste
Directions
- Melt shortening in a large kettle
- Add meat and onion
- Brown slowly stirring with a fork to break up meat
- Add remaining ingredients
- Mix well
- Bring to a boil
- Cover
- Reduce heat Simmer for 1 12 hours
