Crackle Snappers

Ingredients

  • 1 6 oz pkg semi-sweet chocolate morsels
  • 23 c shortening
  • 12 c sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 14 c light corn syrup
  • 1 34 c sifted flour
  • 2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 14 tsp salt
  • 1 c finely chopped walnuts
  • sugar

Directions

  1. Melt chocolate morsels over hot not boiling water
  2. Remove from heat and set aside
  3. Combine shortening 12 cup sugar and egg and beat until creamy
  4. Blend in melted chocolate and corn syrup Sift together flour baking soda cinnamon and salt and stir in gradually
  5. Add nuts and mix well
  6. Shape into balls using 1 level tablespoonful for each
  7. Roll balls in about 14 cup sugar
  8. Place 3 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet
  9. Bake at 350 for 15 minutes
  10. Yields 3 dozen 3-inch cookies
