In very large saucepan combine sugar evaporated milk boiling water and Karo syrup bring to a boil Add baking soda bring to a boil again Add pecan halves continue to boil stirring constantly until firm ball stage Remove from heat and beat until thickens and loses shiny gloss Drop by spoonfuls onto wax paper Add a teaspoon of hot water if it becomes too hard May be frozen or kept in an airtight container A teaspoon of vanilla may be added at the end of cooking if desired
