Custard Sauce

Ingredients

  • 4 egg yolks
  • 13 c sugar
  • 18 tsp salt
  • 2 c milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Directions

  1. In a heavy 2-quart saucepan over low heat or double boiler over hot not boiling water beat egg yolks sugar and salt with wire whisk
  2. Gradually stir in milk and cook stirring constantly until mixture thickens and coats the back of a spoon about 25 minutes
  3. Stir in vanilla
  4. Serve sauce warm or cold over apple pie fruitcake cut up fruit or ice cream
  5. Serves 12
