Date Nut Bread

Ingredients

  • 34 c chopped nuts
  • 1 c dates chopped
  • 1 12 tsp baking soda
  • 12 tsp salt
  • 14 c margarine
  • 34 c boiling water
  • 2 eggs
  • 12 tsp vanilla
  • 1 c sugar
  • 1 12 c sifted flour

Directions

  1. Combine nuts dates soda and salt in bowl
  2. Add shortening and boiling water allow to stand 15 minutes
  3. Stir to blend Beat eggs slightly and add to date mixture
  4. Do not overmix Place in a greased 9 x 5 x 3-inch loaf pan
  5. Bake for 1 hour or until done at 350
  6. Turn out onto a wire rack to finish cooling after it has been in pan about an hour
