Deep Dish Apple Pie
Ingredients
- 6 c thinly sliced peeled apples 2 lb
- 14 c sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 Tbsp cornstarch
- 18 tsp salt
- 34 c all-purpose flour
- dash of ground nutmeg
- 3 Tbsp margarine
- 2 to 3 Tbsp cold water
- skim milk
Directions
- Place apples in 10 x 6 x 2-inch baking dish
- Combine sugar and cinnamon set aside 1 teaspoon of mixture
- Stir cornstarch and salt into sugar mixture
- Sprinkle over apples
- Stir together flour and nutmeg
- Cut in margarine until mixture resembles coarse crumbs
- Sprinkle 1 tablespoon of water over part of mixture Toss with fork
- Repeat until all moistened
- Form into a ball and roll dough into a 12 x 8-inch rectangle
- Place pastry atop apples
- Cut vents in pastry and flute edges
- Bake at 375 for 40 minutes
- Brush pastry with milk and sprinkle with reserved sugar mixture
