Deep Dish Apple Pie

Ingredients

  • 6 c thinly sliced peeled apples 2 lb
  • 14 c sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 Tbsp cornstarch
  • 18 tsp salt
  • 34 c all-purpose flour
  • dash of ground nutmeg
  • 3 Tbsp margarine
  • 2 to 3 Tbsp cold water
  • skim milk

Directions

  1. Place apples in 10 x 6 x 2-inch baking dish
  2. Combine sugar and cinnamon set aside 1 teaspoon of mixture
  3. Stir cornstarch and salt into sugar mixture
  4. Sprinkle over apples
  5. Stir together flour and nutmeg
  6. Cut in margarine until mixture resembles coarse crumbs
  7. Sprinkle 1 tablespoon of water over part of mixture Toss with fork
  8. Repeat until all moistened
  9. Form into a ball and roll dough into a 12 x 8-inch rectangle
  10. Place pastry atop apples
  11. Cut vents in pastry and flute edges
  12. Bake at 375 for 40 minutes
  13. Brush pastry with milk and sprinkle with reserved sugar mixture
