Ingredients

  • 12 lb ground beef
  • 1 onion chopped fine
  • 2 cloves garlic chopped fine
  • 1 tsp parsley chopped fine
  • 2 tsp ginger chopped fine
  • 1 heaping tsp curry powder
  • 1 beaten egg
  • 12 c currants
  • 12 c toasted pine nuts or slivered almonds
  • 1 c cooked rice
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 pt jar grape leaves in salt brine
  • juice of 4 limes
  • 14 c olive oil

Directions

  1. Mix first 12 ingredients
  2. Spread out 1 grape leaf at a time Put 1 to 2 teaspoons of filling depending on leaf size at lower end of leaf about the bottom 14 of leaf
  3. Fold both sides into center and roll from bottom towards stem
  4. They should look like short fat cigars
  5. Place rolls in casserole barely covering with water and 13 of lemon juice
  6. Bake covered at 350 for 40 minutes
  7. Remove from oven and while still hot add remaining lemon juice and olive oil
  8. Refrigerate overnight
  9. Serve cold Makes about 35
