Doughnuts

Ingredients

  • 2 c milk
  • 14 tsp salt
  • 3 eggs beaten
  • 14 c melted butter
  • 1 yeast cake dissolved in warm water
  • 1 c sugar
  • 6 or 7 c flour
  • 12 tsp nutmeg

Directions

  1. Scald the milk and set aside to cool
  2. To the dissolved yeast add 12 cup of flour and mix to batter
  3. Add to the milk which has been scalded and allowed to become lukewarm
  4. Stir in 1 teaspoon sugar and about 3 cups flour
  5. Set in warm place to rise overnight
  6. In the morning add the eggs nutmeg butter sugar and salt mix thoroughly
  7. Stir enough flour until batter can no longer be stirred with a spoon
  8. Set aside to rise
  9. Roll on well floured board and cut with doughnut cutter
  10. Let rise again and fry until golden brown
