Dutch Rusk

Ingredients

  • 14 c melted lard
  • 1 12 qt warm water
  • 1 c sugar
  • 14 c salt
  • 2 pkg dry yeast prepared in water-sugar mix
  • 3 tsp vanilla
  • 3 eggs
  • flour to make nice dough

Directions

  1. Mix first 4 ingredients then add flour to thicken slightly Add the next 3 ingredients and mix
  2. Add flour until right for punching
  3. Lard sides of pan
  4. Knead a few minutes more
  5. Let rise 2 times
  6. Make into large 3-inch buns
  7. Let raise
  8. Bake at 350 and let cool
  9. Slice each bun in 2 or 3 slices
  10. Dry in low oven until crisp
