Feather Bed Rolls

Ingredients

  • 12 c shortening
  • 2 pkg dry yeast
  • 12 c sugar
  • 2 eggs well beaten
  • 2 c milk scalded and cooled
  • 12 c warm water
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 5 c flour or enough to make a moderately stiff dough

Directions

  1. Melt shortening into milk while milk is hot
  2. Dissolve yeast into water and add to cooled milk
  3. Add sugar salt and eggs mix well
  4. Add flour one cup at a time and knead until dough is stiff and elastic
  5. Let stand 20 minutes
  6. Roll out and cut into desired shape
  7. Cover and let rise until double in size
  8. Bake at 400 until golden brown
