French Bread

Ingredients

  • 1 pkg active dry yeast
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 12 c warm water
  • 1 12 tsp salt
  • 4 to 4 12 c all-purpose flour
  • 2 Tbsp cornmeal

Directions

  1. Dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water in large mixing bowl Let stand until bubbly 8 to 10 minutes
  2. Stir in salt and enough of the flour to make a stiff dough
  3. Turn dough onto lightly floured surface knead in additional flour until dough is smooth and elastic about 10 minutes
