French Onion Bread

Ingredients

  • 2 pkg dry yeast
  • 12 c warm water
  • 2 Tbsp shortening
  • 1 12 c hot water
  • 3 Tbsp sugar
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1 envelope dry onion soup mix
  • 6 to 7 c flour

Directions

  1. Soften yeast in the warm water
  2. In a large bowl combine shortening and hot water
  3. Add the sugar salt and soup mix and stir well
  4. Add yeast mixture
  5. Gradually add the flour to make a stiff dough
  6. Knead on a floured board until smooth and elastic Let rise in a warm place until double in bulk
  7. Punch down and let rise again 12 hour
  8. Shape in 2 loaves it makes nice round ones in 8-inch cake pans
  9. Let rise until light and bake 35 to 40 minutes at 375
