French Onion Bread
Ingredients
- 2 pkg dry yeast
- 12 c warm water
- 2 Tbsp shortening
- 1 12 c hot water
- 3 Tbsp sugar
- 2 tsp salt
- 1 envelope dry onion soup mix
- 6 to 7 c flour
Directions
- Soften yeast in the warm water
- In a large bowl combine shortening and hot water
- Add the sugar salt and soup mix and stir well
- Add yeast mixture
- Gradually add the flour to make a stiff dough
- Knead on a floured board until smooth and elastic Let rise in a warm place until double in bulk
- Punch down and let rise again 12 hour
- Shape in 2 loaves it makes nice round ones in 8-inch cake pans
- Let rise until light and bake 35 to 40 minutes at 375
