German-Style Red Cabbage

Ingredients

  • 3 tbsp butter or margarine
  • 3 Granny Smith apples thinly sliced
  • 1 small onion chopped
  • 2 small red cabbage shredded 1-34 lb
  • 13 c white vinegar
  • 12 c firmly packed brown sugar
  • 2 tsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 14 tsp pepper
  • 13 c dry red wine

Directions

  1. Melt butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat add apple and onion and saute for 5 minutes
  2. Add cabbage and vinegar
  3. Sir together sugar and next 3 ingredients sprinkle over cabbage
  4. Add wine cover reduce heat and simmer stirring often 35 minutes Yield
  5. 6 servings
