German Chocolate Cake

Ingredients

  • 1 4 oz pkg Bakers Germans chocolate
  • 12 c boiling water
  • 1 c butter or margarine
  • 2 c sugar
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2 14 c sifted all-purpose flour
  • 12 tsp salt
  • 1 c buttermilk
  • 4 egg whites beaten

Directions

  1. Melt chocolate in boiling water Cool
  2. Set aside
  3. Cream the butter and sugar until fluffy Add yolks one at
  4. a time beating well after each Blend in vanilla and chocolate Sift flour with soda and salt Add alternately with buttermilk to chocolate mixture beating after each addition until smooth Fold in beaten egg whites
  5. Pour into three 9-inch layer pans
  6. Line bottom of pans with wax paper
  7. Bake at 350 for 30 to 35 minutes
  8. Cool and frost tops only
