German Chocolate Cake

Ingredients

  • 1 pkg Bakers Germans sweet chocolate
  • 12 c boiling water
  • 2 sticks margarine
  • 4 egg yolks unbeaten
  • 12 tsp salt
  • 1 c milk with 2 Tbsp vinegar set until sour
  • 1 12 c sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 2 12 c flour
  • 4 egg whites beaten

Directions

  1. Boil water add chocolate and cool
  2. Beat egg whites until fluffy
  3. Cream margarine and sugar
  4. Add egg yolks
  5. Add melted chocolate and vanilla
  6. Mix well
  7. Sift salt soda and flour together
  8. Add alternately with milk and vinegar mixture to chocolate mixture
  9. Beat until smooth
  10. Fold in beaten egg whites Pour in 2 9-inch cake pans
  11. Bake at 350 for 30 minutes
  12. When cool cut layers in half
  13. Frost each layer and sides with Coconut Pecan Frosting
