German Pretzels
Ingredients
- 1 pkg yeast
- 1 12 c warm water
- 1 tsp salt table salt
- 1 Tbsp sugar
- 4 c flour
- 1 egg
- coarse salt
Directions
- Dissolve the yeast in the warm water
- Add the table salt and sugar
- Blend in the flour
- Put on bread board and knead for 5 minutes or until smooth
- Divide into 4 equal parts
- Roll each part separately
- Cut into 5 equal pieces
- This will yield 20 small pieces each of which will be rolled like a rope and formed into a pretzel
- Place on lightly greased cookie sheets
- Flip over brush each pretzel with beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse salt
- Let rise 20 minutes
- Bake at 375 for 10 minutes or until lightly browned
- Cool and place in airtight container and freeze Thaw at room temperature and warm in oven
- Serve plain or dip in cheese or mustard
