German Red Cabbage

German Red Cabbage

Ingredients

  • 1 small head red cabbage
  • 1 small chopped onion
  • 2 Tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 14 c water
  • 2 Tbsp red wine vinegar
  • 1 chopped apple
  • 3 slices bacon

Directions

  1. Remove cabbage core shred cabbage
  2. Add onion sugar salt bay leaf and water
  3. Bring to a boil then simmer 20 minutes
  4. Add vinegar and apple
  5. Cook additional 3 or 4 minutes
  6. Sprinkle with bacon bits
