German Steamed Slaw

Ingredients
- 3 lb cabbage shredded
- 3 large onions chopped
- 1 lb bacon
- 1 12 Tbsp salt
- 1 Tbsp pepper
- 2 Tbsp celery seed
- 1 28 oz can tomatoes
- 2 c vinegar
- 34 c sugar
Directions
- Fry bacon and reserve the grease
- Chop cabbage and onions In a large heavy pot mix cabbage onions salt pepper celery seed and tomatoes
- Add sugar and vinegar to warm bacon grease and then add to the cabbage mixture
- Cook slow until cabbage is very soft and translucent
- Stir occasionally
