GermanS Sweet Chocolate Cake

Ingredients

  • 1 4 oz pkg Bakers Germans sweet chocolate
  • 12 c boiling water
  • 2 14 c sifted cake flour or regular flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 12 tsp salt optional
  • 1 c butter or margarine I use butter
  • 2 c sugar
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 c buttermilk
  • 4 egg whites stiffly beaten

Directions

  1. Melt chocolate in boiling water cool
  2. Sift flour soda and salt
  3. Cream butter and sugar well
  4. Add egg yolks one at a time beating after each
  5. Blend in vanilla and melted chocolate
  6. Add flour mixture alternately with buttermilk beating after each addition
  7. Fold in beaten egg whites
  8. Pour into 3 9-inch greased and floured layer pans
  9. Bake at 350 for 30 to 35 minutes
  10. Cool in pans 15 minutes
  11. Remove and cool on rack
