Health Bread
Ingredients
- 2 pkg active dry yeast
- 12 c warm water
- 1 c quick cooking oats
- 2 tsp salt
- 2 Tbsp shortening
- 1 c raisins
- 2 23 c boiling water
- 1 c bran
- 34 c molasses or sorghum
- 1 c stirred whole wheat flour
- 6 or more c all-purpose flour
Directions
- Soften yeast in warm water
- Combine next 6 ingredients and cool to lukewarm
- Add softened yeast and molasses
- Stir in whole wheat flour beat well
- Gradually add enough flour to make a soft dough
- Turn out on lightly floured surface
- Knead until smooth Place in a greased bowl and turn once
- Cover with damp cloth Let rise in warm spot until double in bulk 1 or more hours Punch down
- Let rest for 10 minutes
- Shape into 2 loaves in greased 9 12 x 5 x 3-inch bread pans
- Let rise until double approximately 45 minutes
- Bake for 40 to 50 minutes in 350 oven Great toasted
