Health Bread

Ingredients

  • 2 pkg active dry yeast
  • 12 c warm water
  • 1 c quick cooking oats
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 2 Tbsp shortening
  • 1 c raisins
  • 2 23 c boiling water
  • 1 c bran
  • 34 c molasses or sorghum
  • 1 c stirred whole wheat flour
  • 6 or more c all-purpose flour

Directions

  1. Soften yeast in warm water
  2. Combine next 6 ingredients and cool to lukewarm
  3. Add softened yeast and molasses
  4. Stir in whole wheat flour beat well
  5. Gradually add enough flour to make a soft dough
  6. Turn out on lightly floured surface
  7. Knead until smooth Place in a greased bowl and turn once
  8. Cover with damp cloth Let rise in warm spot until double in bulk 1 or more hours Punch down
  9. Let rest for 10 minutes
  10. Shape into 2 loaves in greased 9 12 x 5 x 3-inch bread pans
  11. Let rise until double approximately 45 minutes
  12. Bake for 40 to 50 minutes in 350 oven Great toasted
