Heavenly Onions

Ingredients

  • 2 large Bermuda onions, sliced
  • 1/2 lb. Swiss cheese, grated
  • 8 slices French bread
  • 1/2 c. milk
  • 2 to 4 Tbsp. butter
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper
  • 1 can cream of chicken soup (undiluted)
  • 1 Tbsp. soy sauce

Directions

  1. Simmer onions in butter in heavy pan on low until tender and separated.
  2. Stir constantly.
  3. Place in a 2-quart casserole. Sprinkle with pepper; top with cheese.
  4. Heat soup, milk and soy sauce until blended.
  5. Pour soup mixture over all; stir gently. Butter bread slices on both sides and top casserole, overlapping the slices.
  6. Bake at 350° for 30 minutes.
