Hot Cross BunsA Family Tradition On Good Friday

Ingredients

  • 23 c sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 pkg dry yeast
  • 1 12 c flour
  • 1 12 c milk
  • 12 c butter
  • 1 egg
  • 1 c flour
  • 1 c raisins
  • 2 to 2 12 c flour

Directions

  1. Combine sugar salt yeast and flour in large bowl
  2. In 1-quart saucepan over low heat heat milk and butter until very warm 120 to 130
  3. With mixer at low speed beat liquid into dry ingredients until blended
  4. Increase speed to medium beat 2 minutes
  5. Beat in egg and 1 cup flour to make a thick batter continue beating 2 minutes scraping bowl often
  6. Stir in raisins and flour to make a soft dough
