Italian Toast

Ingredients
- 1 c sugar
- 12 c margarine
- 3 eggs
- 1 Tbsp baking powder
- 3 c flour
- 1 12 tsp anise or almond extract
- 1 Tbsp anise seed
- 1 c sliced almonds
Directions
- In mixing bowl cream margarine and sugar together until light and fluffy
- Add 2 eggs and flavoring
- Stir in flour mixture and mix well
- Add nuts to batter
- Chill well about 2 hours
- Shape into 3 loaves
- Brush top with egg white from third egg
- Bake on slightly greased cookie sheet at 300 for 25 minutes or until golden brown
- Slice into 12-inch diagonal slices
- Return to oven and brown 30 minutes or until dry
