Killer Brownies

Ingredients

  • 1 pkg German chocolate cake mix
  • 34 c 1 12 sticks margarine room temperature or melted
  • 23 c evaporated milk divided
  • 1 pkg 14 to 16 oz light caramels
  • 1 pkg 6 oz chocolate chips
  • 12 to 1 c chopped nuts optional

Directions

  1. In bowl mix cake mix with margarine and half or evaporated milk
  2. Using electric mixer blend at low speed
  3. Batter will be stiff
  4. In saucepan over medium heat or in 1 to 2-quart container in microwave melt caramels with remaining 13 cup evaporated milk stirring frequently on stove or twice during microwave melting
  5. Keep warm
  6. Place half of cake batter into ungreased 13 x 9-inch pan
  7. Spread evenly
  8. Bake at 350 for 6 minutes
  9. Let cool 2 minutes
  10. Dribble melted caramel over top carefully
  11. Sprinkle chocolate chips and nuts evenly over caramels
  12. Drop remaining cake mixture by spoonfuls all over surface spreading together carefully with spatula
  13. Return to oven and bake 18 to 20 minutes Let cool in pan at least 15 minutes before cutting into bars Makes about 24 2 14 inch square brownies
