Layered Cabbage Casserole

Ingredients

  • 1 medium head cabbage
  • 14 c butter or margarine
  • 15 c all-purpose flour
  • 12 tsp salt
  • 14 tsp pepper
  • 2 c evaporated milk
  • 14 c green pepper chopped
  • 14 c sweet red pepper chopped
  • 15 c onion chopped
  • 23 c Cheddar cheese shredded
  • 12 c mayonnaise
  • 3 Tbsp chili sauce

Directions

  1. Cut cabbage into small wedges cook in boiling salted water until tender
  2. Drain
  3. Place wedges in a 13 x 9 x 2-inch baking dish
  4. Set aside
  5. Melt butter in a small saucepan stir in flour salt and pepper
  6. Gradually stir in milk cook over medium heat until thickened stirring constantly
  7. Pour sauce over cabbage wedges
  8. Bake at 350 for 20 minutes
