Molasses Oatmeal Bread
Ingredients
- 2 c dry oatmeal
- 4 c boiling water
- 12 c molasses
- 12 c soft shortening
- 12 c brown sugar
- 12 c raisins
- 3 tsp salt
- 2 pkg dry yeast in 12 c warm water
- 5 c flour
- 6 to 7 c flour
Directions
- Preheat oven to 350
- Combine oatmeal and boiling water
- Let stand 1 hour until cool
- Add next 7 ingredients
- Mix well and let rise
- Add rest of flour and knead well
- Let rise again Form into loaves
- Let rise until light
- Bake about 45 minutes Makes 3 large or 4 medium loaves
- This bread freezes well Can also be made into tea rolls
