Molasses Yeast Rolls

Ingredients

  • 1 12 c boiling water
  • 1 c rolled oats
  • 12 c molasses
  • 13 c shortening
  • 1 Tbsp salt
  • 2 pkg dry yeast
  • 12 c warm water
  • 2 eggs slightly beaten
  • 6 to 6 12 c flour

Directions

  1. Pour boiling water over rolled oats molasses shortening and salt
  2. Cool to lukewarm
  3. Dissolve yeast in warm water
  4. Add yeast eggs and 3 cups flour to oat mixture
  5. Beat until smooth
  6. Stir in enough of the remaining flour to form a soft dough
  7. Knead until smooth and elastic about 5 minutes
  8. Place in greased bowl and cover
  9. Let rise until double in size about 1 hour
  10. Punch down Shape into rolls and place in shallow pan
  11. Cover loosely
  12. Rise until doubled in size 30 to 40 minutes
  13. Bake in a 350 oven for 20 to 25 minutes
  14. Brush with melted butter
  15. Makes 3 dozen rolls Enjoy
