Nut And Raisin Bread

Ingredients

  • 2 12 c sifted flour
  • 12 tsp salt
  • 5 tsp baking powder
  • 1 well beaten egg
  • 1 c sugar
  • 3 Tbsp melted shortening
  • 1 c nuts
  • 1 c raisins
  • 1 Tbsp flour
  • 1 c milk

Directions

  1. Heat skillet until almost smoking
  2. Turn burner down to low Mix 1 to 1 12 cups corn meal mix milk and egg
  3. May also add chopped onion andor sour cream
  4. Add water if needed to make batter thin like cake batter
  5. Pour into hot skillet and place lid on
  6. Then turn batter and let cook
  7. Crack lid to let the steam out so cornbread will not be soggy
  8. One bag of self-rising corn meal is used
