Oatmeal Bread

Ingredients

  • 2 pkg dry yeast
  • 14 c lukewarm water
  • 2 c boiling water
  • 1 12 c oatmeal
  • 2 Tbsp shortening
  • 14 c brown sugar
  • 14 c molasses
  • 1 12 tsp salt
  • 1 c cold water
  • 6 to 7 c flour

Directions

  1. Mix yeast in warm water
  2. Set aside
  3. To the boiling water add oatmeal shortening brown sugar molasses and salt and mix Add cold water
  4. When mixture is cooled to lukewarm add yeast mixture
  5. Mix in flour
  6. Knead on floured board
  7. Set to rise in warm place until double in bulk 1 hour
  8. Punch down shape into loaves and let rise again
  9. Bake at 350 for about 50 to 60 minutes
