Old-Fashioned Butter Crunch

Ingredients

  • 1 12 to 2 c slivered almonds toasted
  • 1 c butter
  • 1 14 c sugar
  • 2 Tbsp light corn syrup
  • 2 Tbsp water
  • 12 oz chocolate chips

Directions

  1. Toast almonds at 350 until golden 5 to 10 minutes
  2. Cool Reserve 1 cup and blend to almost dust 12 to 1 cup
  3. Melt butter in a large heavy saucepan on medium heat 3-quart pan
  4. Cook the sugar corn syrup and water to hard crack stage 300
  5. Stir often
  6. When done mixture will pull from side of pan
  7. Remove from heat
  8. Add 1 cup slivered almonds
  9. Pour into a 13 x 9-inch buttered Teflon type pan
  10. When almost cool run scraper around sides of pan use heat resistant scraper
  11. Cool completely and turn out on waxed paper
