Old-Fashioned Buttermilk Pound Cake

Ingredients

  • 12 c butter or margarine softened
  • 12 c shortening
  • 2 c sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 12 tsp baking soda
  • 1 c buttermilk
  • 3 c all-purpose flour
  • 18 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp lemon extract
  • 1 tsp almond extract

Directions

  1. Cream butter and shortening gradually add sugar beating well at medium speed of an electric mixer
  2. Add eggs one at a time beating after each addition
  3. Dissolve soda in buttermilk Combine flour and salt add to creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk beginning and ending with flour mixture
  4. Mix just until blended after each addition
  5. Stir in flavorings
  6. Pour batter into a greased and floured 10-inch tube pan
  7. Bake at 350 for 1 hour and 5 to 10 minutes or until a wooden toothpick inserted in center comes out clean
  8. Cool in pan 10 to 15 minutes Remove from pan and let cool completely on a wire rack
  9. Yield one 10-inch cake
