Old-Fashioned Icicle Pickles

Ingredients

• 4 large cucumbers about 8-inches long 2 12 lb
• ice water
• 1 qt white vinegar
• 2 c sugar
• 2 tsp salt
• 6 small onions peeled
• 1 Tbsp mixed pickling spice

Directions

1. Wash cucumbers do not pare
2. Cut lengthwise into 6 to 8 strips depending on size of cucumbers
3. Place in shallow baking dish
4. Add enough ice water to cover cucumber strips
5. Let stand 3 hours
6. Sterilize 2-quart jar leave in hot water until ready to fill
