Old Fashioned Cornbread Dressing
Ingredients
- 2 c cornmeal
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 2 eggs beaten
- 2 Tbsp bacon drippings melted
- 1 medium onion chopped
- 6 slices day old bread
- 1 c milk
- 1 tsp salt
- 12 tsp pepper
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 c buttermilk
- 3 stalks celery chopped
- 2 Tbsp butter or margarine
- 2 to 2 12 c chicken broth
- 2 eggs beaten
- 1 tsp poultry seasoning
Directions
- Combine cornmeal baking powder baking soda and salt in a large mixing bowl
- Add 2 eggs buttermilk and bacon drippings Mix well
- Place a well-greased 10-inch cast-iron skillet in oven at 450 for 4 to 5 minutes or until hot
- Pour batter into skillet Bake at 450 for 35 minutes or until lightly browned
- Cool and crumble cornbread into large bowl
