Orange Candy Cake

Ingredients

  • 1 c butter
  • 5 eggs
  • 1 8 oz pkg dates
  • 2 c chopped pecans
  • 1 4 oz can shredded coconut
  • 12 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 34 c buttermilk
  • 2 c sugar
  • 1 Tbsp vanilla
  • 1 lb orange candy slices cut in small pieces
  • 4 c plain flour sifted 14 c to dredge fruits and nuts 3 34 c to mix into batter

Directions

  1. Turn oven to 300
  2. Beat butter and
  3. sugar
  4. until it is fluffy
  5. Add eggs beating well after
  6. each
  7. addition
  8. Mix in vanilla
  9. Measure 3 34 cups of sifted
  10. flour
  11. andsift
  12. with baking
  13. soda
  14. and
  15. salt
  16. Add
  17. flour
  18. mixture
  19. andbuttermilk alternately to cake batter
  20. Mix chopped dates chopped orange candy chopped nuts and coconut in 14
  21. cup
  22. flour
  23. Mix well Fold this fruit-nut mixture into the
  24. cake batterGrease and flour a 10-inch tube pan
  25. Spoon batter into pan and bake in a slow oven 300 for 2 12 hours
