Orange Nut Glazed Raisin Bread

Ingredients

  • 1 c milk
  • 1 12 tsp salt
  • 12 c sugar
  • 12 c soft butter
  • 2 pkg active dry yeast
  • 14 c warm water
  • 5 14 to 5 34 c sifted flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp grated orange peel
  • 1 tsp ground ginger
  • 1 12 c raisins

Directions

  1. Scald milk pour over salt sugar and butter
  2. Blend and cool to lukewarm
  3. Sprinkle yeast on warm water stir to dissolve
  4. Add to milk mixture with 2 12 cups flour
  5. Beat 2 minutes with electric mixer then beat in eggs orange peel ginger raisins and 12 cup flour
  6. Then mix in enough remaining flour a little at a time with spoon
  7. Then use hands knead until smooth into a ball Grease and let rise in warm place until doubled
  8. Punch down
  9. Let rise 15 minutes
  10. Make into 2 loaves
  11. Make 3 slashes in top
  12. Let raise not more than double
  13. Bake in moderate oven at 375 for 40 to 50 minutes
  14. Cover with sheet of foil after 20 minutes if it browns too fast
  15. Remove loaves from pan
  16. Place on wire rack spread Orange Glaze over them then cool
