Pavlova

Ingredients

  • 2 egg whites
  • 1 tsp white vinegar or 14 tsp cream of tartar
  • 18 tsp salt
  • 12 c sugar
  • 2 12 c sliced or cut up fresh strawberries
  • 13 c thawed frozen whipped dessert topping

Directions

  1. Line a baking sheet with foil
  2. Draw six 3-inch circles on the foil
  3. Set aside
  4. In a small mixer bowl combine egg whites vinegar and salt
  5. Beat with an electric mixer on medium speed until soft peaks form tips curl
  6. Gradually add the 12 cup sugar 1 tablespoon at a time beating on high speed until very stiff peaks form tips stand straight and sugar is almost dissolved about 4 minutes
  7. Use the back of a spoon to spread the meringue over the circles on the foil building the sides up
  8. Bake in a 300 oven for 35 minutes
  9. Turn off oven
  10. Let meringue shells dry in oven with door closed for at least 1 hour
  11. Remove from foil
  12. To serve spoon fruit into meringue shells
  13. Top with whipped topping
  14. Makes 6 servings
