Ingredients

  • 1 c sugar
  • 1 c dark syrup
  • 1 c shortening or butter
  • 12 c black coffee
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 2 tsp aniseed crushed
  • 5 c flour
  • 2 tsp aniseed flavoring optional

Directions

  1. Combine all ingredients
  2. Roll into long thin rolls in wax paper
  3. Refrigerate overnight
  4. Slice into 14 to 12-inch slices Bake at 325 for 10 to 15 minutes until lightly browned
  5. Cool and store in airtight container
  6. Will keep indefinitely
  7. Yield about 800 peppernuts
  8. A must for Christmas
