Plain Biscuits

Ingredients

  • 3 c sifted all-purpose flour
  • 3 tsp baking powder
  • 1 Tbsp sugar optional
  • 34 Tbsp salt
  • 12 c butter
  • 14 c approximately milk
  • 1 egg well beaten

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 400
  2. Sift dry ingredients together then using a pastry blender or two knives cut in butter
  3. Combine milk and egg and slowly add to flour until mixture is wet enough to hold together
  4. Turn onto a floured board
  5. Knead then roll to 12-inch thickness and cut with a biscuit cutter
  6. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes or until lightly golden
  7. Yields about 2 dozen biscuits
