Plain Pastry
Ingredients
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 c sifted flour
- 23 c shortening
- 13 c ice water
Directions
- Mix well and form into a ball
- Let rest in refrigerator for about 20 minutes
- Cut ball in half and roll half just thin enough to be able to handle into a pie plate
- Place filling into pie plate with bottom crust in place
- Roll out top crust to same thickness as bottom and place on the pie
- Bake the pie according to the directions given with the filling
- Most 2-crust pies cook best when baked in a hot oven 450 for about 10 minutes and the rest of the time in a moderate oven 350
